DESCRIPTION

The Aerial Lift/Telehandler Class is intended for workers who are required to operate Aerial Lifts,  Telehandlers or Forklifts on the jobsite. Our highly trained and experienced instructors will provide operator training, a thorough review of applicable OSHA regulations, and the use of personal fall protection equipment in combination with this equipment.

The primary focus of this class is to provide hands-on training with the specific make and model of equipment used by the worker, and specific to the job being performed. Upon completion, workers will come away with an understanding of the best practice methods of the safe and effective use of the Aerial Lifts, Telehandlers and Forklifts required to complete their job.

Required Equipment:

Availability of the Aerial Work Platform (AWP) and a safe area in which to operate the equipment.

Description:

This 1-day TomKat Safety Training course is designed for those individuals who will be or are currently operating boom lifts, scissor lifts, or AWP’s required by OSHA, ANSI, and other applicable regulations.

This course utilizes classroom, demonstration, and hands-on evaluation of the operator’s skills per the OSHA and ANSI requirements governing the safe and proper use of this type of equipment listed in OSHA 1910.178. This course meets the Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health, and Environmental Training (ANSI Z490.1).

All students will participate in classroom, hands-on instruction, and student-performed exercises that will cover:

  • The purpose, use, and location of manuals.
  • Prestart inspections
  • Workplace inspections
  • Factors that affect stability
  • Safety rules and regulations specific to scissor lifts and AWP’s
  • Operator rules and responsibilities.
  • Best and safest practices.
  • Minimum approach distances.
  • Emergency devices and procedures.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the following topics:

  • Physical operations.
  • Inspection and stowage.
  • Comprehension of the hazards associated and related to stability and tip-over.
  • Emergency operations and procedures.
